We are looking for a Senior Manager External Affairs to represent ASML as advocacy lead with the European Union and selected European governments. You have highly developed analytical, writing and communication skills as well as strong networking and advising skills at the higher official levels. You have a proven track record in an advocacy-focused position. You are accustomed to taking initiative and to working independently within overall guidelines, showing an appetite for identifying opportunities and risks and for acting upon them. You enjoy working in an open, transparent, informal, dynamic and hard-working environment. You are fluent in English and Dutch; fluency or proficiency in French is considered a plus. You will be based in Brussels and, if applicable, will be willing to relocate to the Brussels region for the duration of the job.

Role and responsibilities

In this role you will function as a senior member of our global advocacy team and play a particularly important role in supporting ASML’s growth in the fast-moving high-tech and semiconductor industry by building strong coalitions with governments, institutions and businesses in the European realm. The Senior Manager External Affairs EU will be responsible for preparing, managing and following-up senior leadership meetings in the European realm, except for the Netherlands and Germany (for which other senior members of the team are responsible). You will develop or actively support initiatives involving ASML with the EU, European governments (other than the Netherlands and Germany), public organizations and European business alliances. You will engage with political, policy and regulatory developments in the EU and the broader European context that may support or affect ASML’s strategic objectives and provide strategic counsel to ASML leadership on these matters. To this end, you will be able to build and manage high-level relationships within the EU and with European governments, other public organizations and European business alliances.

Within GEA, you will report to the Head Geopolitics and Global Advocacy. As senior member of our global advocacy team, you will be actively involved in designing, developing and coordinating the execution of ASML’s global advocacy and general external affairs strategy. You will, in addition, be expected to play a coordinating and coaching role vis-à-vis less experienced team members. Taking ownership comes naturally to you.

Education and experience

You will have:

  • At least a master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, or Communications).
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience (experience in or with the semiconductor industry is a plus).
  • Longstanding affinity for and experience with technology-related policy and industrial issues.
  • Proven advocacy experience and track-record interacting with high level government officials, policymakers, trade associations, agencies, or other stakeholder groups
  • Strong stakeholder management experience in an international environment.
  • A relevant pre-existing network within the EU institutions and/or relevant national governments.
  • In-depth understanding of the political, policy and legislative processes within the EU, and at least some understanding of such processes in other member states (in particular France).
  • Fluency in English and Dutch. Fluency or proficiency in French is considered a plus.
  • Proven track record in coordinating small teams and in enabling all team members’ success and professional growth.

  • Work collaboratively with other departments within ASML (e.g. Legal, Communications, R&D, Risk) to ensure strategic alignment, well-informed decision-making and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively within a team.

Other information

As Senior Manager External Affairs you will be based in the region of Brussels, Belgium, with frequent requirements to travel to ASML’s headquarters in Veldhoven as well as to Paris, other European capitals and other international meetings as needed.  As a member of ASML’s global advocacy team, you will report to the Head of Geopolitics and Global Advocacy. You will work closely with colleagues at ASML’s headquarters and throughout the world and engage with senior leadership within ASML on a frequent basis.
