Your Challenge as Manager Public Affairs

We are seeking a Manager Public Affairs, with a strong focus on Energy, who will proactively represent Nobian externally, being responsible for positioning Nobian’ views on regulation in the chemical industry, (renewable) energy, climate, sustainability as well as sustainable salt mining.

Working within Nobian, you are responsible for driving, facilitating, and initiating our public affairs agenda, with a focus on energy, climate regulation, sustainability, and sustainable salt mining. You are responsible for mapping and tracking policy and regulatory risks and opportunities, as well as help to protect Nobian’s license to operate, with a focus on energy and climate regulation. You will engage in external stakeholder dialogue and align this with Nobian’s business strategy and internal stakeholders. You will support Nobian’s head of Public Affairs in the overall coordination of Nobian’s public affairs agenda and activities.

You are a team player with affinity to the political environment and our markets. You are able to connect the outside world to Nobian and translate this into business opportunities and risk mitigation. You are advising and supporting the project leaders across Nobian when needed (Energy, RD&T, Sustainability, Mining, Commercial).

Where relevant you will represent Nobian with external industry stakeholders and trade organizations in the Netherlands as well as in Brussels, When and where applicable you will support the Nobian representatives in Germany and Denmark. Relevant topics are, amongst others, are the chemicals, electricity, gas, water, heat, carbon and EU energy and climate regulations (e.g. EU Fit for 55 package and EU Green Deal). You will participate in relevant working groups for Nobian within these associations, you will support Nobian’s VP RD&I and Sustainability in his work as part of the board of VNCI.

You will report to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs, and functionally report to the Director Energy, the Director Mining and the Director RD&T and Sustainability. Being part of the Communications & Public Affairs team you will support to help create synergies between our Public Affairs and Communications activities as well as our overall stakeholder engagement.

Besides identifying and advising there is a clear expectation to turn advice into actions, through projects and consortia. Bringing ideas and advice to impact and value. You are able to gain a rapid understanding of the Nobian business and technology agenda – in which we operate a diverse portfolio of assets, including for the production of utilities, power plants for the production of power and steam, and salt and chlor-alkali plants.

Central to Nobian is the need to actively develop our own renewable energy projects and manage our portfolio to reduce our carbon footprint and increase the share of renewable energy. We recognize the need to comply with EU, national and regional laws and regulations, and one of your core roles is to proactively drive dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

The Manager Public Affairs will be responsible to drive Nobian’s regulatory agenda and supporting Nobian’s representation in relevant industry fora. You will actively contribute to strategic partnerships in the field of energy, climate and sustainability and interact in a multi-disciplinary environment. The rapidly changing regulatory environment around energy, climate and sustainability is crucial for Nobian to support our existing activities as well as to create new business opportunities. This role will work in very close cooperation with our Energy, Mining, RD&T, Sustainability and Commercial Teams.

Requirements:

  • Education: Academic;
  • Minimum 7-10 years working experience;
  • Excellent oral and written commercial and communication skills;
  • Very good verbal and written skills in English. Fluent in Dutch, understanding of German is a plus;
  • Solid advisory and analytical skills, connector and initiator, experience with driving a corporate public affairs agenda;
  • In depth understanding of energy and emission markets and the underlying dynamics;
  • Active national and international network and proven experience in the field of energy, climate, emissions, and sustainability regulation;
  • Good understanding of the Dutch and EU political dynamics and decision making;
  • Ability to direct interdisciplinary and cross- & multifunctional working relations;
  • Intellectually and personal strength, flexibility, and entrepreneurship.
