THE ROLE

Damen Naval is seeking a dynamic Junior Public Affairs Advisor with a specific focus on sustainability to play a key role in promoting and integrating sustainability within Damen Naval’s operations and projects. Based at our headquarters in Vlissingen and The Hague, Netherlands, you will contribute to ensuring Damen Naval’s positive reputation and secure support from various internal and external stakeholders. In this dynamic role, you will also provide crucial support to our Public Affairs team, focusing on the province of Zeeland and the theme Sustainability as Licence to Operate.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
As Junior Public Affairs Advisor your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading initiatives to promote and integrate sustainability within Damen Naval’s operations and projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and advancing sustainable practices.
• Identifying, describing, and communicating the sustainability theme to relevant stakeholders and identifying sustainability opportunities for Damen Naval within the Netherlands and towards our prime client.
• Collaborating with Damen Shipyards Group’s sustainability team to support and advance Damen Naval sustainability commitments.
• Providing support for sustainability-related reporting and storytelling initiatives.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, gathering feedback, addressing concerns, and promoting open dialogue to ensure activities align with local interests and expectations.
• Participating in industry associations, forums, and conferences to represent Damen Naval’s interests and contribute to industry discussions and initiatives within the Zeeland region and municipality of Vlissingen.
• Support in monitoring, analysing, and summarizing government policies, legislation, and regulations that could impact Damen Naval’s operations, and advocating for favourable outcomes.
• Support in identifying political, societal, and policy developments, translating them into opportunities for Damen Naval.
• Supporting development and execution of public affairs and public relations strategies and campaigns to enhance Damen Naval’s reputation, promote its brand, and highlight its work in naval capabilities.
• Supporting the preparation of speeches and talking points for Damen Naval management executives and spokespersons for public events, conferences, and interviews.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
To excel as the Junior Public Affairs Advisor, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• Bachelor degree in environmental science, sustainability studies, politics, public administration, international relations, or other relevant study.
• At least one year of relevant experience in public affairs with proficiency in sustainability
• Strong interest in sustainability and the Defence industry and preferably Dutch and local politics.
• Good command of the Dutch and English language, both written and verbal.
• Excellent references antecedents because a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship combined with an EU work visa are both required for our employees given the military nature of projects.
